Our Members Said This About Starting…

If our members could go back in time and say one thing to themselves when they just started training at our gym - what would they say?

I asked some of our members that question and got so many amazing responses!

Here’s what they said:

____________________

"All things take time! Goals are good way to stay on track! But understand that you can’t run before you can walk and if it means something to you then focus on it!"

"Learn to pace a workout and be patient. Work on recovery, nutrition and consistency."

"No one is looking at you. Take the shirt off!"

"Learn to use your core properly to prevent injury, listen to your body and rest when it needs rest."

"Don’t worry about being the fittest in the room - just keep showing up. The PRs will come, the years will fly by, and the friendships you build will end up meaning more than any lift. Then one day you’ll realise the biggest things you’ve gained aren’t just strength, fitness, and physical and mental wellbeing - you’ll also have more confidence and belief in yourself, and friendships that make every workout more fun and worthwhile."

"I would tell myself to be excited. You have so much ahead of you - so many new people to meet, so many skills to learn, and so much confidence to gain. Some days will be hard and frustrating, but stick with it. This decision will change your life more than you realise, and one day you’ll be incredibly grateful that you were brave enough to start."

"Just keep showing up. One day you’ll realise this place - and these people - mean a lot more than you expected."

"Pull the ego into line. Do lighter weights and focus on technique."

"It won’t matter if you are not the fittest or slimmest or youngest person. At this gym everyone is important and as special and why did we not start this 10 years earlier."

"Be consistent in attendance and take rest days. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Know your limitations and work within them. Find your people."

"You don’t always have to be instantly good at everything, just have a go. Your journey is yours so don’t let someone else’s pace dictate your progress."

"Take the before photos… because one day you’ll wish you had them, and even if the scales don’t reflect it as much as you’d like, my body is about to change so much for the positive. I will become physically and mentally stronger."

"Keep pushing through workouts and turning up as before you know it this place becomes part of your life, showing up becomes routine. You will become so much stronger, and achieve skills that you once saw as impossible to do. (Like for me handstand push ups, TTB)."

"You don’t know it yet but you are about to make some incredible friendships with people who lift you up, cheer you on, and support you both in the gym and in personal life!"

"Progress ebbs and flows, but keep showing up and do what you can."

"I’d remind myself that feeling unsure at the beginning is normal. You don’t need to have it all figured out, just show up and trust the coaches to guide you!!!"

"Trust the process, even if we’re training only accessories or the movements you’re not comfortable with, don’t cherry pick and show up!"

"Turn up to each class ready to give maximum effort with full enthusiasm. Coaches can’t and shouldn’t have to coach effort."

"Consistency is vital for progress. Commit to coming even when you don’t feel like it or it’s hard, that’s when the most growth occurs."

"Do not compare yourself to others. Your journey is your journey. Stick to your path. Celebrate your successes and the successes of others but don’t worry about where others are at."

"For the first 2 years of attendance, forget PR’s, whether you are lifting heavy or going fast or slow, focus exclusively on obtaining the correct technique."

"Drill over and over and over the correct, proper, right and safe technique."

"Listen to, and respect the coaches. Follow exactly what they say and program, especially if you are injured."

"Get the foundation right for every movement first, then look to build."

"You will be amazed that you’re still going all these years later and what a big difference it will make to your life - in terms of friendship and fitness."

"Think holistically in training and forget short term results - plan for the medium to long term."

"As a mum: Forward prep meals for self and family to reduce daily stress and increase nutritional value."

"Be kinder to self, always. Relevant at the gym - if you are starting from scratch, it can be just as difficult environment (mentally and physically) as any others."

"Have patience with yourself, it takes time to achieve your goals, just keep showing up and do the work and it will come."

"There will be moments you’re super proud of yourself, and moments when you’re disappointed with results and that’s okay. Don’t compare yourself to others, everyone is on their own health and fitness journey."

"Commit harder - do the work and give it everything from day 1."

"Enjoy the process, if you push yourself it’ll be one of the hardest things you’ll do but the reward of how fit, strong and healthy you could become make it all worth it."

"Set yourself small achievable goals that lead to a bigger goal. Learn to celebrate your achievements along the way because these massive jumps don’t come overnight. Don’t compare yourself to people who have been training for years and the skills they can do. Use them as inspiration but don’t put yourself down about what they can and you can’t do. Our gym is great at celebrating people’s wins as a community, even if it’s really small. When I joined the gym, the first goal I had was to do a body weight pull up!"

"Be brave and don't be afraid to speak to people. It feels safe to put your blinkers on and only focus on the workouts, but make an effort to join in. Turn up to events, get to know the people you spend all that time with. Encourage other members. Cheer their wins and commiserate the pain together. Workouts literally feel easier and hurt less when you share a laugh and feel supported by the people around you, so learn to be the person who does that for others. Oh and listen to coach, ffs."

"Push hard, take on new challenges, you never know what you might achieve unless you give it a go."

"Don’t freak out. You are gonna only get stronger here. Not only physically but also mentally."

"Stop overthinking it, just keep consistent and I’ll see results!"

"It’s not going to be easy, and you might hate it at times—but it’ll be worth it in the long run for the friends, laughs, and tears along the way"

"Don’t stress, no one is looking at you and you’re not slowing anyone down"

"And if you are, they’re probably grateful."

"Put effort into the little things (stretching, mobility) and show up consistently."
